Da 5 Bloods
A Spike Lee Joint inspired by Marvin Gaye’s 1971 album “What’s Going On” honors the Black Vietnam Veterans. Working closely with Netflix and Spike to create an equally impactful 360 campaign, the creative team pushed the boundaries from executing psychedelic illustrations to army patch emojis, maintaining the authenticity of the era.
Throughout the campaign, the team found themselves drawn to the artwork created by activist Emory Douglas, a former Minister of Culture for the Black Panther Party. Leading to a groundbreaking collaboration with Gravillis x Emory, resulting in not only a unique poster but the short-film documentary Revolution by Design: Emory Douglas x Spike Lee. The documentary takes a deep dive into the creative process of the movie posters and in-depth conversation between Spike and Emory.
